U.S. News reporters who ask the hard questions and do the investigating to expose FAA failures are rare. One of the best today is Mario Diaz, at PIX11 News, serving the New York market area. He won multiple award for ‘Below the Radar’, a five-part series that aired in mid-2014. This website posted twice about the series, first in mid-May (after the first four episodes), and again in mid-August (after the fifth episode).
Mario’s awards include:
- In April, the Radio Television Digital News Association chose ‘Below the Radar’ to receive the regional Edward R. Murrow Award in the category of ‘News Series’.
- On June 6th, at the New York State Associated Press Association’s dinner award banquet, ‘Below the Radar’ won Best Enterprise Story and a special mention under the ‘Best News Series’ category.
- Later in June, at their summer conference, the New York State Broadcasters Association(NYSBA) named ‘Below the Radar’ the Best Public Affairs Program/Series.
- Additionally, Mario Diaz won a 2014 Emmy Award, in the category ‘On-Camera Talent: Reporter – Political’ for his work on April 28, 2014, when the first part of ‘Below the Radar’ was broadcast.
