QUOTE Rep. Jason Chaffetz, on 5/13/2015…
“…A hundred percent redacted. This is a blank form that they will not even allow Congress to see. Now, if that’s the type of cooperation we’re going to get from the TSA, we’re going to have some very difficult times.”
Representative Jason Chaffetz chairs the important House Oversight & Government Reform Committee. He made the above statement during his opening remarks, and while holding up a redacted form he had received from TSA.
At time 2:26 on the video, Rep. Chaffetz holds up a piece of white paper, upon which a gray box has been printed, redacting the entire printed portion of the sheet of paper. (click on image to view video of the hearing)
Here is the expanded quote, leading up to displaying the redacted form:
“…it does require that we have very good communications between the Congress and Homeland Security, specifically the TSA. We’ve had an exceptionally difficult time – exceptionally difficult time – getting information from the TSA on some very basic matters. One of the things, for instance, that we asked for – this is a blank – ladies and gentlemen, this is a blank form – a blank form. Not filled out – a blank form that people are to use as they assess security. We asked to see a copy of it. We were allowed to see it in camera, but members here were not allowed to see that. And so we asked for a copy of it. This is what they give us. A hundred percent redacted. This is a blank form that they will not even allow Congress to see. Now, if that’s the type of cooperation we’re going to get from the TSA, we’re going to have some very difficult times.”
TSA is a much younger agency than FAA. But, both agencies are famous for their arrogance and opacity, even toward Congress. We need a strong reform effort from Mr. Chaffetz and the committee he chairs. Please help us reform the FAA.
